Description
This is a rare 1976 first pressing of the self-titled debut from piano prodigy Hermann Szobel. Released on Arista Records (AL 4058), this album is a masterwork of complex Jazz Fusion and Progressive Jazz. Recorded and remixed at Record Plant Studios in New York City, the production captures the intense energy of a 17-year-old Szobel alongside a stellar lineup including Michael Visceglia on bass and Bob Goldman on drums. The album features the visionary endorsement of Roberta Flack on the back cover, highlighting Szobel's unique approach to the instrument.
The tracklist includes the sprawling 'The Szuite' and 'Mr. Softee' on Side A, with 'Between 7 & 11,' 'Transcendental Floss,' and 'New York City, 6 AM' on Side B. This 12-inch vinyl record plays at 33 1/3 RPM and is a must-have for collectors of 1970s avant-garde jazz and fusion. The iconic cover art features a sepia-toned image of the Flatiron Building, perfectly complementing the urban, sophisticated soundscapes contained within.
