Disco/Nu Disco/Re-Edits Side 1. Hills Of Katmandu (The Patrick Cowley Underground mix) Side 2. Hills Of Katmandu (Hans-Jurgen Koppers re-edit)
On its in initial release in 1979, Italian outfit Tantra's epic 'Hills of Katmandu' - a throbbing, pulsating and suitably epic slab of cosmic-minded and deliberately exotic electronic disco-rock - became something of an underground anthem in San Francisco's gay clubs. It remains an astonishing record, as this timely reissue proves. What we get is a pair of rare, sought after mixes. Side A sports an extremely hard to get hold of translation from the late, great Patrick Cowley, whose 'underground mix' not only adds layers of sweat-soaked masculine muscularity, but also all manner of wild, mind-altering synth sounds and effects-laden guitar solos. Over on the flip, there's a chance to savour Jurgen Kopper's version for DJ subscription service Disconet, a club-focused rearrangement of the Italian artist's staggering 17-minute full-length version.
