Hilton Micro75 portable turntable P/A VERY UNUSUAL ITEM
Here is a really unusual item. It is a mono turntable with a 2 channel PA system built into the same package. The turntable is unlike any I have ever seen. It has a mono cartridge with a turnover needle for 33-45 and 78 rpm records. The tone arm actually has an adjustable counter weight. The transport clip slides to allow for 12 inch records without making the case larger. The drive mechanism is a synchronous AC motor that turns a drive wheel. The wheel runs along the underside of the heavy aluminum platter. The drive mechanism can move in and out thus spinning the platter faster or slower. The speed control gives continuously variable speeds between about 30 and 85 rpm! There is a strobe for 33, 45, and 78rpm.
The chassis also has a 75 watt amplifier with 2 1/4 inch jacks for external speakers (there are no internal speakers). There are two 1/4 inch microphone input jacks and a 'Tape Voice' output on the front panel. There is a volume control for the microphones and another for the Phono. The Phono has both bass and treble but the microphones have a single tone control. There is also an RCA jack for 'Tape Music' and a 1/8 inch minijack for a remote mute. The back has the previously mentioned 2 speaker jacks plus three RCA jacks labeled 'Music Monitor,' 'Tape Record,' and 'All Monitor.' The platter has a soft foam to absorb vibration. Comes with a heavy conical 45 rpm adapter.
Inside the unit is all high quality. The pre-amps are all IC op-amps in sockets. Most of the capacitors are tantalums or other high grade parts. The amp is a Sanyo STK070 with a minimum of 70 watts outputs with 0.2% distortion. The phono works great as do the two microphone channels. The chassis is very heavy metal plate and the case is constructed from 3/8" thick MDF wood product, sprayed with a charcoal colored nitrocellulose finish and trimmed with plated metal hardware. The lid has two take-apart hinges for easy removal when in use. Four spring feet prevent the needle skipping if accidentally bumped. It is in extremely good physical conditions with only a few small flaws in the covering. It looks good and works great.
Hilton still makes a similar version of this unit, the AC-500 (http://www.hiltonaudio.com/ac500.html) that costs $2395! This is no ordinary turntable.
