This superb LP from Amadeo (AVRS 6355, Austrian pressing, red/silver label – ED1, heavy vinyl, stereo) features two splendid Haydn performances under the baton of the remarkable Italian pianist and conductor Carlo Zecchi, both recorded in the late 1950s and sounding truly spendid here.
The exact contents are as follows, both works written by Joseph Haydn:
Violin Concerto in A Major Hob. VII a:3
> with Eva Hitzker, violin
Piano Concerto in F Major Hob. XVIII:3
> with Inge Mayerhofer-Langer, piano
The orchestra throughout is the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, which is on brilliant form. Eva Hitzker recorded for the Remington label and is an artist whose recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation. the artistry of the now little-known pianist Inge Mayerhofer-Langer is no fine.
Those unfamilair with Amadeo pressings would do well to investigate them. Theirs was a rich catalog encompassing original recordings and licenses from other labels, including – as was the case here – from the American Vanguard label. Yet, Amadeo issues boasted their own artwork and early releases were pressed on thick flat vinyl, with glossy, fully laminated jackets. They are superb albums in every way.
The striking cover photo of Mario Rossi is credited to Fayer, Vienna. There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, both in German (by Alfons Übelhör) and in English (by Richard Rickett). The striking cover design is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, more so at corners, as well as creasing and aging. However, there are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, still a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
