redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome gatefold LP from Capitol (P 8455, USA pressing, green/gold circle label, mono) features the great Hollywood Quartet's magnificent accounts of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 15 in A minor Op. 132, recorded in 1958 on the heels of their celebrated appearance at the 1957 Edinburgh Festival.
At this time, the HSQ was comprised of Felix Slatkin (violin), Paul C. Shure (violin), Alvin Dinkin (viola), and Eleanor Slatkin (cello).
This is exalted Beethoven playing by any measure and this performance can easily be spoken of in the same breath as those by the Quartets Busch, Smetana, Budapest, et al.
The interior panels of the gatefold jacket carry insightful liner notes by Desmond Shawe-Taylor, printed in English only. The lovely cover art was executed by H. Boyd.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a 1 ½” split to the upper-right corner of the rear panel and a very small catalog sticker taped to the upper spine, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears almost in fine shape – overall, a very good collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
