Up for sale is an exceptionally rare, PRIVATE PRESS, DOUBLE LP with a live performance recording of a major American composer who was present and conducted most of the program himself.

The auction includes all of the following:

• 2 stereo LPs, both in really nice condition (see above for details and photos)
• A typewritten page with the program of of the concert
• An outer jacket with slots to contain each LP, plain without markings
• Two paper inner sleeves, one plain, the other marked "RCA Victor" and possibly not original

These performances were part of the forty-second annual Festival of the Arts at the State University of New York, College at Potsdam.

The Crane School of Music was founded in 1886 and was one of the first institutions in the country to offer programs to train public school music teachers.  The School became part of the New York system of higher education in 1926.  It is currently one of three Schools (and the College of Arts & Sciences) at SUNY Potsdam.  The Crane Symphony Orchestra was established in 1939 and claims to be the second oldest college orchestra (next to Harvard's).  The Crane Chorus was founded in 1931 and has typically featured the voices of 180 to 200 music majors.

Renowned Pulitzer Prize winning composer Howard Hanson (1896 - 1981) was the Director of the Eastman School of Music, at the University of Rochester, for about 40 years (from 1924 to 1964).  Rochester is about 220 miles from Potsdam, New York, where this concert was held.
