Description
This is the seriously rare, incredibly hard to find original mono UK first pressing of the 1965 Howlin’ Wolf compilation ‘Poor Boy’ on Chess, distributed by Pye in the UK. This was only manufactured in small quantities and deleted almost immediately.
The CRL 4508 - A1 matrix stamping is clearly visible in the enlarged photo of the Side One label. Side two is stamped CRL 4508 - B1.
The sleeve is VG++, with very light ring wear to the front laminated Garrod and Lofthouse flipback and some discoloration on the non-laminated section of the flipback foldovers and some small creases to the spine (see enlarged versions of pictures). The original price tag is on the back.
The record is at least VG ++, the heavy vinyl has a high gloss, with a couple of faint marks and plays well.

As you’ll see, this compilation pretty well nails all of Howlin’ Wolf’s best tracks. I don’t think any other album ever showed him in such consistently majestic form. Chicago R & B at its finest!
I am not a record dealer. Over the next few weeks I am selling off my collection of some two hundred albums, mainly from the 1960s and 1970s (see my other items). These have been stored with care and unplayed over the past twenty years. Before this most were played only on a Linn LP12 deck and carefully handled. None of them are mint (it was a working record collection) but most are in extremely good condition. Many were bought as the albums were released and so are first pressings. I have tried to use the guide to condition in Record Collector as a guide to my descriptions of condition and am also providing other information such as matrix numbers wherever possible. I am also posting a number of photos of each album. If anyone buys an album and feels it has not been accurately described, I will happily refund as long as the record is returned to me promptly in the condition that it left here. I will post albums out, signed for whenever possible, in the appropriate size of high end record mailer, as supplied by Covers 33 within two working days of receiving cleared funds via Paypal.
Anything over £30 will go out Special Delivery in the UK or International Signed For abroad.
