Legendary 78 RPM 12-disc boxed set of the 1947 Metropolitan Opera's production of master 19th Century German composer Engelbert Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel."
This is the first complete recording of the opera in English, which stars Risë Stevens and Nadine Conner as the eponymous characters.
These actual records have been stored lovingly over the years and are in beautiful condition. Their inner sleeves are pristine -- no signs of wear. The outer box (14" x 12.5" x 2.25") is in good condition considering its age with a few scuffs (see photos).
Also included is a program featuring cast photos and biographies, photos of the famed New York opera house and stage, plot information, and a complete English translation of the libretto written by the composer's sister, Adelheid Wette. NOTE: Program is rumpled with some folds and bends -- but no tears -- despite attempts to flatten it. But it is still very readable and enlightening.
This complete set is rare, hard to find -- and heavy! It weighs an impressive 13 pounds!
