Description
Noti in ambito progressivo in particolar modo per il loro LP "Terra in bocca", I Giganti in realtà nacquero all'interno di una florida scena beat nel '64; autori di due album e diversi 45 giri, furono chiamati a supporto dei Beatles in una delle loro date italiane nel 1965.
Nel 1971 la trasformazione è totale, o quasi. Del beat restano solo certe armonie vocali, mentre il resto è pienamente ascrivibile al rock progressivo più maturo, filtrato attraverso quella sensibilità mediterranea che lo rende immediatamente riconoscibile quale prodotto Made in Italy. Il disco è un concept album dai tratti della rock-opera, sostanzialmente composto da due lunghe suite che occupano ciascuna un'intera facciata dell'LP. Carico di tensione dal primo all'ultimo istante e dalla produzione cristallina, "Terra in bocca" aveva tutte le carte in regola per far emergere I Giganti nell'affollato panorama pop italiano dei primi anni '70, non fosse che per il tema trattato - il delitto d'onore mafioso - precluse loro qualsiasi sbocco promozionale.
Già edito in formato CD da Vinyl Magic negli anni '90, questo bellissimo album è oggi riproposto in formato LP, in una fedele replica della versione originale con tanto di riproduzione del poster allegato. "Terra in bocca" fu inoltre realizzato, dal punto di vista concettuale e grafico, in collaborazione con Gianni Sassi, che di lì a poco avrebbe fondato la storica Cramps Records. In una parola sola: imprescindibile!

Renowned in the progressive rock field especially for their LP "Terra in bocca", I Gicanti were actually born within a thriving beat scene in '64; authors of two albums and several 45rpm's, they played in support of The Beatles in one of their Italian shows in 1965.
In 1971 the transformation is complete, or nearly so. From the beat era only some vocal harmonies remained, while the rest fully goes under the flag of a more mature progressive rock, filtered through that Mediterranean sensibility that makes it instantly recognizable as an Italian record. "Terra in bocca" is a sort of rock-opera concept album, basically consisting of two long suites, each occupying an entire side of the LP. Full of tension from the first to the last moment and beautifully produced, this record had everything it takes to make I Giganti rise above the crowded Italian pop scene of the early '70s, but the subject chosen as concept - the mafia honor killing - precluded them any promotional outlet.
Already published in CD format by Vinyl Magic in the '90s, this beautiful album is now presented in a faithful LP replica of the original version, complete with a reproduction of the attached poster. "Terra in bocca" was also made, in terms of concept and graphic layout, in collaboration with Gianni Sassi, that would soon found the historical Cramps Records. In a single word: essential!
