Ian Lynn 'Early Snow' - Nimbus Supercut LP (NM/NM) 

Welcome to our auction for an extremely rare Nimbus Supercut pressing of Ian Lynn's classic pastoral jazz album 'Early Snow'. If you are into audiophile vinyl, Nimbus Supercut LPs need no introduction. This is the second in his trilogy of three. We auctioned the first 'Forgotten Summer' a few weeks ago.

Nimbus Supercut LPs were released as part of a special promotion available only to readers of Practical Hi-Fi and Hi-Fi today magazines in the UK during the early 1980s. They also pressed some albums exclusively for MMC Recordings, these being even rarer than the mail order releases. All the Nimbus Supercut releases were only available in limited quantities and are now even rarer than releases from Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, DCC and similar. Nimbus Records established the need for high quality record releases, as most mainstream vinyl at the time was haphazardly mastered from poor master copies and pressed on poor quality recycled vinyl. In contrast with this release, Nimbus Records went back to the original master tapes for an all-analog pressing, for the best version of this album ever available. Nimbus Records also had the ICI company produce an extremely pure vinyl for the LPs, which has better frequency reproduction and is virtually noise free! This pressing of this classic jazz album has to be heard to be believed. 

The LP was originally recorded onto cassette and as such has only been played a couple of times. The vinyl is stunning near mint condition. The cover and poly-lined inner sleeve are also near mint (NM/NM). Bidding will start at only 99p, so someone will get a definite bargain! 

About the album

Early Snow is the second of three jazz influenced, thematically-related suites. It follows on from 'Forgotten Summer' (the first of the trilogy - MMC 003) to which it contains some references, and is an attempt to capture some of the moods of the other seasons. The introduction glimpses some of the themes used throughout and is followed by Do You See/Seven Bridges which is a more general introduction to set up the rest of the piece. The other titles are more self-explanatory, from Autumn through Christmas at the end of side one, and from snowy mountains through melting glaciers, down a great river, over a waterfall and finally to Ear Song and a promise of Spring. As before, Bob Jenkins is on drums and Martin Ditcham on percussion. They are joined by fellow MMC artist Mo Foster of R.M.S on bass and the lovely Basia who sings with me on Earth Song. (MMC 008).
