Description
Two and a half years ago, I had the good fortune to buy the complete music collection of one of the two directors of the Australian label, Regular Records, including a huge storage space containing the entire Regular Records Archives. I sold a few odd items about a year ago, and again a few months ago, and the (huge!) balance has remained untouched...until now. It's time to get amongst it all and pull out some nice items...so here goes.
The Archives was loaded with master tapes, video masters, contracts, complete files on each artist...as well as mint copies of virtually EVERY vinyl, CD, and cassette release...PLUS...vinyl TEST PRESSINGS of every release...and this...is one of those test pressings.
ARTIST: ICEHOUSE -
TITLES:
1. "ICEHOUSE" (Live)
2. "ONE BY ONE" (Live) .
FORMAT: …vinyl 7" single TEST PRESSING…
LABEL: (REGULAR...through WEA) .
CAT. #: ICENOUSE (this is handwritten, and one would assume they meant to write 'ICEHOUSE', but it definitely says 'ICENOUSE'.) .
DATE: 1983 .
PRESSED IN: AUSTRALIA .
Comes in its original plain white die-cut paper sleeve...Has generic WEA TEST PRESSING labels with the 'catalogue number' and date it was 'cut' (17 August 1983) handwritten on one label; the other has no handwriting, just the plain generic label.
There was only one of this in the Archives...and it was NEVER RELEASED. The Regular director has no recollection of it at all, and neither Iva nor Keith Welsh (I spoke to Keith and showed it to him a few months back) have no recollection of it either, nor even where it was recorded...but the tracks are definitely live and have definitely NEVER been released. All that hints that this may be a complete one-of-a-kind...I would certainly be treating it as such.
In the picture attached here, the small light yellow 'Post-It' note stuck to the sleeve was written by myself when I was researching it a few months back and was pondering if the 'B' side may have been a studio version - the quality is SO good and as there was no crowd noise at the beginning plus the fact that I took the needle off just before the end (it's a long version!), led me to query the recording...but on another listen today, on a fine quality stereo system, I can note that the sound quality definitely has that 'live' feel...plus...there's the dead giveaway of a few seconds of crowd noise/applause/cheering at the end.
So what the hell WAS this?
