Ida Haendel was born in Polish Chelm. She drew attention to her talent when, at the age of 3, she took the violin out of the hands of her elder sister and played on it a song she had heard her mother singing. Half a year later she began to receive instruction in violin playing and still a small child, was accepted at the Warsaw Conservatoire, where she completed her studies at the age of nine, carrying off the gold medal. At the same age she gained the first Bronislaw Hubermann prize in the National Contest for the most gifted children. When 12 years old, she had her first great concert success in London, where she played the Brahms Concerto. It was the start of a brilliant, uninterrupted international career, which took the artist from one success to another.
An exceptional talent for the violin was the rare fundamental gift which Ida Haendel cultivated to the full. Not satisfied with what she had already achieved, she again sought to perfect her playing by studying with George Enesco in Paris and Carl Flesch in London. This she succeeded in doing, but not only did she work her way up to the top rung of the world ladder of violin virtuosi, she had become an exceptional artistic personality. Her playing is distinguished by flawless brilliance of execution, beauty of tone and a perfect sense of style and balance according to the character of the work she is interpreting. She has the reputation of being as accomplished and brilliant a violinist as Yehudi Menuhin and Isaac Stern; but, admitted herself that had she been more photogenic, she would have been as famous
Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill” Sonata, Wieniawski’s Scherzo and Tarantella and Paganini’s Variations on the G string “Moses” are, for Ida Haendel, the basic works which brought her fame as a virtuoso, whereas, for instance, Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen or Ravel’s Habanera show to greatest advantage all the colour nuances of her scintillating art.

This is usually the top mark for USED LP's EXCELLENT+ (EX+) The record does show signs of having been played and has some non-sounding marks, but there is very little if any lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging may have a little laminate lift, slight wear and creasing with few, if any extra items. VERY GOOD+ (VG+) The record shows sign of having been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and a few light scratchs. Normal wear and tear on the cover and packaging but without any major defects. GOOD+ (G+) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated usually with some distortion and scratches. As well as normal wear and tear, the cover and packaging will suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits and or discoloration etc. FAIR+ (F+) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise & scratches; it will probably even jump. The cover and packaging will suffer from major defects and will be torn, stained and / or defaced - my lowest grade possible.
