Described as "one of the most influential records in rock history", this is now over fifty years old.  It is an original UK 1st pressing from the time of first release in February 1973. It is not a reissue. These are really hard to find, especially with the original picture inner sleeve, but to find one with an UNSPLIT inner sleeve and Excellent audio is very rare.

This has the following stamped matrix numbers:

Description
Disc: The vinyl has retained its original sheen with a few small or light marks visible in normal light and some additional ultra-fine hairlines and sleeve-removal lines when viewed under bright, direct light, but there is nothing significant anywhere. I have played the whole record from start to finish and it sounded amazing with very little to mention. There is some background noise in the run-ins/outs, fades and silent grooves and in a couple of quiet intros, but this is a loud album and the music leaps out of the speakers and sounds incredible. There are two quieter tracks ('Gimme Danger' and 'I Need Somebody') where there may be just a hint of background noise in places, but I'm being really picky here. On side one I heard about half-a-dozen very quiet clicks, low-down underneath the music, on 'Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell', and a couple in the fade and run-out at the end of the side, but that was all. On side two I didn't hear any! It is very rare to find this LP sounding this good. Maybe I'm stereo-typing, but I don't think that many of the people who would have bought this in 1973 were exactly the types to have looked after it! I think you'd be hard-pushed to find one that sounds better. Generally, the music on this copy play-grades around Excellent Plus (Ex+), but some background noise in the fades and silent grooves and a handful of small clicks as mentioned mean that I'm going to give this an overall play-grade of Excellent (Ex).

Labels: No tears, stickers, writing etc, just some light spindle marking suggesting that the record wasn't played all that much.

Sleeve: The flimsy sleeve has no seam splits, tears, writing, stickers etc, just some normal signs of age or use, including wear to the edges and corners, some light ring-wear, minor edge-creases etc.

Inner sleeve: The original inner sleeve has some creases to the edges and corners, but NO TEARS OR SPLITS. This is almost impossible to find!

Detracting features not covered above:  None. This is a genuine and complete first UK press, which sounds excellent!

Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below) and are visual gradings only, unless the listing specifically states that it is a play-grading.

I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
