WOW!! For sale is a 1977 first US pressing of Iggy Pop’s incredible album Lust For Life on RCA!! Of of his legendary collaborations with David Bowie, this is widely considered his best. With some of his most iconic songs such as the title track and Passenger, this album blazed onto the scene and was on its way to being a smash hit in the USA....when Elvis Presley died and RCA basically stopped all promotion of this album to focus on wringing out every last cent they could from Elvis’s bloated corpse. Therefore, original pressings of this album are fairly scarce and this album sadly didn’t sell as well as I (and probably any other Iggy fan) believe it should have.

The sleeve is worn but the disc is remarkably clean! This is your chance to get a wonderful play copy of an original pressing and not some newer, lame reissue for a great price. This is the album as it was intended to be heard, mastered at legendary Sterling Sound...modern reissues have not been able to top this. I’ll say it- the 4 Men With Beards reissue is putrid rotting garbage compared to this.

I go on at length below with more detailed descriptions and play grade so here are the abbreviated versions:

Sleeve: G+

Clean enough and intact ...some ring wear, flaky, foxed, chipped & worn corners...seams have some rubbing & flaking- top seam split a few inches starting at the opening edge and a small one on bottom edge. Corners are all pretty much foxed, chipped or worn out. Legible spine except catalogue number half chipped off. See pics- they tell the whole story.

Disc: Visual Grade: VG+ Audio Grade: VG+ to EX

GLOSSY sheen...STRONG VG+....Side 1 is closer to EX. Very light superficial hairlines and marks here and there...the kind that appear/disappear tilting under bright light...absolutely NO deep scratches or scuffs. Side 2 has a tiny bit more of those and a few of what appear to be fingerprints...I gave the disc a simple bath with my Spin Clean but a good deep clean would do wonders and probably get rid of those prints and perhaps remove what little crackle I actually heard in spots. GREAT PLAY COPY and sure to keep your spirits up when things are down.

Here is a detailed description so you know EXACTLY what to expect.

In my humble opinion, nothing beats owning an ORIGINAL. Yep, the sleeve has issues- some ring wear to front and back but it doesn’t distract from the iconic “Happy Iggy” cover. No major creases or bends either. It’s intact, still houses the disc just fine but it’s rough around the edges. The issues here are mainly the crumbly corners/edges- flaking, foxing, chipping and a seam split starting on the top opening edge and a smaller one on the bottom. No major issues with the actual image or lyric rear. No annoying writing or anything like that. Mostly legible spine. Catalogue number has half flaked off but Iggy Pop - Lust For Life still legible.

But enough about the crumby sleeve...the reason you want this copy is the disc! This warrior sleeve has performed nobly protecting this BEAUTIFULLY clean, glossy disc! Appears lightly played- a strong VG+ (more like EX on Side 1) with only a handful of very light surface scuffs and faint marks that are visible and disappear when tilting under bright light. Side 2 has a tiny bit more of those and a few of what appear to be fingerprints which may clean off with a fancy ultrasonic cleaner or maybe a bit of a rub. I gave it a simple bath in my Spin Clean and I just gave it a play very LOUD and it plays with bright crisp clear audio with only very light crackle in some spots. I may have heard a light pop or two on Side 2. Most run-ins are pretty silent. Absolutely NO skips or jumps on my system and no reason to think there ever would be on yours. It sounds absolutely KILLER! And man, what a fantastic album!

Grading System:

SS (Still Sealed)

Unopened records, still in original shrink wrap. In original manufactured condition unless otherwise noted (i.e. evidence of mildew or bent corners, etc.)

M (Mint)

The record and sleeve are in perfect, original condition. The record may have been played but will have no evidence of deterioration. (I will only use this grade on SEALED records that appear to be Mint as I believe any non-new, opened record cannot be truly called MINT.

NM (Near Mint)

A nearly perfect record. Any visible defects are of the type that "disappear" when the record is tilted under a strong light and they should not affect play. Sleeves in near mint condition will have no obvious signs of wear. Practically imperceptible ring wear may be allowed but no creases, seam-splits, or other easily detected flaws will be present.

EX (Excellent)

A very clean record. Near mint except for slight, superficial signs of wear. Sleeves in this condition may have marginal defects, but will not have significant creases or splits.

VG+ (Very Good Plus)

A well-cared-for record that is noticeably less than perfect, but defects are not visually or audibly distracting. Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or light scratches, but are still primarily clean. Sleeves may have some creases or minor ring wear, but should not be split.

VG (Very Good)

A used, reasonable copy to play. Many of the defects found in a VG+ copy will be more pronounced in VG condition. Surface noise may be evident and sleeves may look worn, but the record is still a decent copy.

G (Good)

A well-worn record that is still playable. Good does not necessarily mean "bad" but a record in this condition will have audible distractions and may have visible groove wear. Sleeves may have all manner of defects, but are still intact.

FA (Fair) and P (Poor)

These grades are for beat-up records. I will only sell records in these grades if they are extremely rare and sought-after.
