Description
SOPHIE TUCKER (1884-1967) was one of the bullet-proof stalwarts of show business, whose career lasted over sixty years, during which time she never was less than a star. She once said of her vocal cords, “They’re not cords, honey. They’re IRON BANDS!”
Riding high in her Talkie debut, she sings two Jack Yellen – Milt Ager song hits from the 1929 Warner Bros. “HONKY TONK”: “I’M DOING WHAT I’M DOING FOR LOVE,” and “I’M FEATHERING A NEST.”
This original 1929 “Scroll” Victor 21993 is in neat EE- condition. Victor was using lousy shellac at the time, so the record is a bit noisy. It’s NOT my fault!
PHOTOS: 1) Sophie on the original sheet music for "I'm Doing What I'm Doing for Love" 2) NICE studio publicity shot of Sophie, for "Honky Tonk." 3) Original lobby card for "Honky Tonk."
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
