Description
HERE is one of the best and hottest jazz records to be released on the GREY GULL family of labels: THE DIXIE DEVILS, or on other labels, THE MEMPHIS JAZZERS, play the spiffy Porter Grainger tune, "IN HARLEM'S ARABY."
CONTROVERSY has swirled among historians about the personnel of this record. King Oliver has been named as the cornetist; this was later changed to Mike Mosiello, but even later changed to We Don't Know WHO the Hell It Is! Whoever they are, the playing is GREAT. It would seem this is an otherwise unrecorded Black band. These three musicians (Cornet, Alto Sax-Clarinet and Piano, play so "tall," they sound like ten! One of my favorites for over fifty years.
"TURN ON THE HEAT" is on the flip. THE COLLEGIATE JAZZERS keep it very lively!
THIS original 1929 Van Dyke 71804 is in swell E condition. Mostly unharmed; a few light scuffs.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
