Description

Ethnic Folkways FE 4464 INDIAN MUSIC OF THE CANADIAN PLAINS Field Recordings by Kenneth Peacock for  The National  Museum of Canada 1955
This record is in M- condition.  The cover is VG+.  The white label is Folkways' label for its Ethnic Series -- a series of field recordings accompanied by an expiatory booklet (for this record, 8 pages of 2 column small print) written by a knowledgeable scholar of the recorded material.
The explanatory booklet for this record was written by the scholar who actually made the field recordings, Kenneth Peacock.  Peacock was a recipient of the Order of Canada.  He was recognized as a leading authority on the ethnography and cultural history of that country.  Both the record and the booklet offer a clear and entertaining lesson in North American Native music.
Like this record cover, the outer sleeves Folkways made were of tough cardboard, well fastened together.  For this record. the only flaws from use are an approximately 2" beginning split at the center of the top and a beginning  paper peel at the top of the spine .
The record is clean with no spindle wear that we can see.
The booklet is curling at the bottom and is beginning to fox (turn brown) from age.
The record was pressed in 1955.  Folkways did small pressings of their documentary series and it's likely that no more than a few thousand of these records were made.
Kenneth Peacock did these recordings for the National Museum of Canada.
