Indian Summer : Indian Summer 3/3 1st Press

This relatively rare first pressing on the very collectable Neon label plays to a superb standard with only minimal 'background' and this is stated in my audio grading below.  There are only two light clicks on S1 and just a little static here and there i.e. not very much!  The majority is stunning!

The gatefold is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear and the inner sleeve is in superb shape although more than likely not original.

The audio on S1 is Near Mint (T2 Ex+ with a brief VG+ section / T4 intro VG+ for a few seconds)

The audio S2 is Near Mint (T3 ranges between Ex & Ex+)

Visual grading

The vinyl is in lovely condition with an impressive glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches.  Under a strong light there are a few very faint sleeve removal hairlines and there is one small hairline on S2 that is a little more obvious.  The Neon labels are in superb condition with no marking/writing and I cannot find any spindle wear.  Just some faint fingerprint type marks on the black surface.

Play grading

There is a little static on the run in as you set the needle down but as 'God Is The Dog' begins there is barely any 'background' and the intro plays so well with no clicks or pops and only a couple of dust ticks.  The depth and warmth of the audio is what immediately strikes you and of course the overall clarity.  The opening verse is nigh on perfect and it continues to play with great quality.  The first quiet passage has some light static for the first few seconds and then plays very clearly.  It continues to play with very strong audio - the vocals are so 'clean' and the long instrumental section is stunning.  The sonic quality is worth a mention here - it is so strong and deep and has lost none of its original quality with no 'muddiness' or background static.  The remainder plays so clearly and the long fade out has only the lightest of static right at the end.  This is a Near Mint start to the album with the majority even better than that.

'Emotions Of Men' has only minimal light static on the intro and the first vocal section then plays with great clarity.  Again the depth of the audio is so strong and it continues to play very clearly with barely any intrusion.  There is one light click near the beginning of the long 'bluesy' instrumental piece and then plays with great clarity and depth with just a little static and a couple of crackle sounds towards the end of this section.  A couple more crackles on the final vocal and then the remainder plays with real precision.  The majority of this track plays with very strong audio and Ex+ is about right but with a brief VG+ section near the end.

The instrumental into on 'Glimpse' plays superbly with only the bare minimum of light static and the first vocal is as close to perfect as could be.  It continues to play with wonderful clarity and depth and there are no clicks or pops.  Largely an instrumental the playback is so impressive and there are only a small number of totally non-intrusive light ticks.  Near Mint

The first few seconds of 'Half Changed Again' plays very clearly with just one click at the start and only minimal static.  The remainder of this quiet section plays exceptionally well with hardly any intrusion.  As the volume increases the audio is stunning and this entire section then impresses on every level - the clarity, depth and power of the audio is phenomenal.  I will grade the opening few seconds as VG+ and the rest as Near Mint it is that good.

'Black Sunshine' plays with tremendous power and depth from the word go with no interference at all.  The first vocal is of the same standard and it progresses in the same way.  The playback is stunning and the mid instrumental could hardly play any better with only a handful of very light ticks.  The following vocal is faultless and the end section is superb!  This is easily a Near Mint version.

The intro on 'From The Film Of The Same Name' has no 'background' and from then on plays with near perfect audio.  There are no clicks or pops and I detected only a handful of light ticks.  Let's say Near Mint although many would grade higher.

The very quiet intro on 'Secrets Reflected' plays very well with only minimal light static here and there and the opening vocal is very similar.  It continues to play with great clarity for a track with so many quiet sections and there are no clicks or pops.  Neither side has been played very much and that is particularly evident with this track.  There is just a little more static either side of the final vocal so ranging and Ex and Ex+ is an honest assessment of the audio.

The intro and opening vocal on 'Another Tree Will Grow' play with superb sound quality with only a couple of very light ticks soon after.  The long instrumental then plays with sublime quality with no sign of any interference - the playback is fantastic and you really have to turn the volume up here!  The brief end vocal has just one mega light tick and this track ends this classic prog album with Near Mint audio with perhaps 98% grading as Mint!

In summary the majority of this first pressing plays to a very high standard with only minimal 'background' and nothing that you would deem overly intrusive.  A couple of light clicks on S1 and some light static here and there that's about it and like I say the majority is very impressive indeed.  The actual depth and and warmth of the audio is superb and there is a lot to like here!

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The Keef designed cover is in excellent condition with not very much shelf wear.  The edges have some rubbing with a little more on the bottom edge of the back cover but the wide spine is in superb order with only some light wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are very clean with barely any wear and the opening edge has no handling wear at all.  The front cover is in lovely condition with only a couple of minor 'fade' areas and the back cover is just as good with just a touch of minor ringwear.  The inside of the gatefold has no marking but does have some creasing/a 'wavy' feel around the inner spine are, this is quite common with this LP I have found.  Overall though a very strong cover that for once is barely marked which is rare for these non-laminated covers.

The poly-lined black inner is in superb condition although I doubt it is the original as it is so clean!  There is no printed silver patent number on either side also.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
