Another short-lived ‘specialist’ label from a major record company, this time RCA.
The Neon label only issued 11 albums, a varied mix of folk, jazz and prog rock from
‘one-off’ obscure artists. Most disappeared without trace!
All the albums (bar the last one NE11) were released in 1971. RCA must have
had enough of the lack of sales and called it a day by early 1972 after
The Running Man’s self titled album.
Formed in Coventry, England, this short-lived outfit boasted a lineup consisting of bassist Malcolm Harker, drummer Paul Hooped , keyboardist Bob Jackson and guitarist Colin Williams.
According to the liner notes on their sole album, managed by Jim Simpson, the group was one of two outfits auditioned for a contract by RCA. Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath walked away with the deal. A year later the quartet were signed to RCA's newly formed Neon label.
Produced by Rodger Bain, 1971's "Indian Summer" offered up a competent and occasionally engaging set of progressive-cum-psych moves. Musically the set focused on extended keyboard dominated pieces that mixed together early-'70s progressive rock with pseudo-jazzy moves. Taken individually material such as "God Is the Dog" and "Black Sunshine" wasn't bad (assuming your tastes leaned in a progressive direction).

Matt gatefold sleeve, designed and photographed by Marcus Keef, using his ‘trademark’
false colour photographic style, although this outer sleeve design has more of a
‘negative’ look about it…
The inner gatefold design is typical Keef and is very similar to Black Sabbath’s
‘Paranoid’, Jimmy Campbell’s ‘Half Baked’ and Beggars Opera ‘Act One’ on
Vertigo swirl and ‘Hannibal’ on B&C Records – all with mono photographs and pink type.
