This is an original Ex Condition copy of the 736 page encyclopedia of rare and vintage punk rock from the known to obscure, as well as power-pop, mod, new wave, goth, industrial, techno, surf, garage and underground music, otherwise known as The International Discography of the New Wave/Volume 1982/83. This monster sized book was released in 1983 by Omnibus Press and was compiled by B. George and Martha Defoe and sells for as much as the rare records it list. Its chronicles meticulously the punk explosion from its inception around 1976 through 1983 with band discographies for over 7500 bands, over 3000 independent labels, over 1300 fanzies. An absolutely AMAZING book and a must for every punk collector. Major punk archivist collector Henry Weld said this about the book, “Without a doubt the most amazing book I own is B. George and Martha DeFoe’s International Discography of the
New Wave Volume 1982/83, usually just referred to as Volume (or the Bible in some households). That they were able to compile such an incredible discography in virtual real time (ie as it happened) on a computer that while it may have been advanced for the time was, let’s not kid about it, incredibly primitive, verges on the unbelievable.” The early 80’s. It’s impossible to emphasize enough how thorough this book is. Despite the number of punk obscurities that have been unearthed in the past 12 years, this book includes a staggering number of bands and records from all over the world. This includes band listings that tell where the bands are from, what records they’ve released (with track listings), who was in the band and whether they broke up or not. This is an astonishingly discography of punk and new wave as it was happening. The International Discography truly is International. Defoe lists records from around the world, not just the US and UK.
