INTRODUCING THE BEATLES 1964 VeeJay 1st Press Version 2 ARC Mono VJLP1062
One of the most consequential releases in American rock history. Vee-Jay Records issued this LP on January 10, 1964, introducing "I Saw Her Standing There," "Twist and Shout," and "Please, Please Me" to the US market just as Beatlemania broke wide open.
This is an original US first pressing on Vee-Jay Records, VJLP 1062 MONO.
This copy carries "PROPERTY OF WCRS RADIO" hand-written on the front cover — a radio station promotional copy from the original Beatlemania rollout.
The matrix carries 63-3402 (Side 1) and 63-3403 (Side 2), hand etched, along with hand-etched "ARC" and "URJ" markings on both sides — identifying this as a Version 2 pressing by Allied Record Company (ARC), one of four plants Vee-Jay used to meet nationwide demand for the January 1964 release, alongside ARP, Monarch, and Southern Plastics. Side 2 carries a hand-etched date of 2-22-64.
Mastered at Audio Matrix, Inc., New York — the metal-parts supplier for Vee-Jay's Beatles catalog.
The Audio Matrix logo is machine stamped on both sides; it appears faded here, which is typical wear for this stamp and not a flaw specific to this copy.
Pressed at Allied Record Company, Los Angeles.
Black label with rainbow outer-rim colorband and the VJ brackets logo, left-justified titles, "LONG PLAYING" and "MICROGROOVE" printed on both sides.
Back cover uses the columns layout with comma in "Please, Please Me."
