Description
A very rare mono copy of "Introducing The Beatles" version 1 due to the 45 rpm labels that Vee-Jay used on this LP. Vee Jay's pressing plant was running short on LP labels at that time (Jan. 1964) as they were cranking out this LP to try to stay ahead of Beatlemania so they substituted the smaller labels meant for 45s (singles) on some copies of this LP in mid-January 1964. Finding this version (version 1 with 45-rpm labels) of this LP anywhere is pretty rare!
This is an authentic version 1 mono LP (with column "titles" on the rear) including "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You". After pressing started, within about 1~2 weeks, these 2 songs were soon removed from this LP (thus later pressings became version 2 with "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why") due to a licensing lawsuit from Capitol Records. This copy was pressed by Monarch Records as observed by their logo with MR in a circle in the run out groove. The "AudioMatrix" stamp is also present.
The cover and LP are Spizer version: VJ 1062(1).MR2 (rainbow label with Vee-Jay oval logo, no "Long Playing" or "Microgroove" text, "Side 1", and "Side 2", and left justified song titles in silver ink). See my photos.
Yes, this is an authentic copy.. as it passes all of the tests the Beatles record collectors know:
1. "The Beatles" name is above the center spindle hole on the label,
2. Rainbow color band label has all of the colors gradually transitioning into each other and the label is properly centered,
3. "63-3402", "63-3403", "AudioMatrix", "? 5702" and "? 5702-x", "SM" and the "Monarch Records" logo are stamped in the deadwax (run out area),
4. Album cover shows George's shadow on the right side,
5. "Honey" has NO missing ink on the rear cover where the song "A Taste Of Honey" is listed,
6. Interior cover flaps are 1/4" in height.
7. Interior flaps also have the cresent shape cut out at their centers.
8. Front glossy photo and front/rear text is crisp and clear.
There are many fakes out there (on Ebay and elsewhere), however this is the real deal on a very rare copy.
This copy is visually and play graded at Good+ (cover and record) using the visual grading standards of the Cox/Daniels "Price Guide For The Beatles American Records" (6th edition) -
The cover has some surface wear (as to be expected for a 51 year old record cover) including some worn seams however the cardboard seams are otherwise intact (no splits) and no tape or any tape residue/staining. The spine is intact and fully readable. There is no writing on the cover or record labels.
The LP has normal wear including some scratches and a longer rub with some minor 'pops' when the LP is played but no skips. The LP actually sounds very good and crisp.
The album will be shipped outside of the cover in a rigid cardboard mailer for protection. Payment is due within 3 days of purchase date and/or end of the auction. Free shipping to the winner of this auction.
Note - the 2014 Panenka book (The Standard Price Guide For American Beatles Records) value for this exact copy of the record/cover both in Good+ condition is approx. $190 (NM is $2,700!!). That tells you the rarity of this specific LP.
