For vinyl enthusiasts, there will be a Half-Speed Remaster of INXS's classic 1987 album cut over two heavyweight, 180-gram LPs at 45 RPM for supreme fidelity, cut by Abbey Road Studios Half-Speed Mastering pioneer, Miles Showell.
Half-speed mastering is a specialist process where the master recording is played back at half its normal speed, with the disc cutting lathe also running at half-speed — 22 1/2 RPM to be precise — giving the cutting head more time to carve a more detailed groove onto the master lacquer.
Kick was the 1987 masterpiece that brought INXS to global fame. With Kick they broke wide open, sending a sharp quartet of singles-"New Sensation," "Devil Inside," "Need You Tonight," and the shimmering ballad "Never Tear US Apart" — right to the charts. The rest of Kick, especially the strutting "Guns in the Sky" and the groovy "Wild Life," is of similar quality; all of it is marked by the band's Stones-y guitars and angular, funk-tinged rhythms. Vocalist Michael Hutchence's MTV good looks and Aretha meets Aerosmith swagger completed the musical equation for both the girls and the boys. One of the decade's great live bands, too.
