En 1978, le jeune enseignant, débordant d’énergie, monte un groupe dénommé Idrissa Soumaoro et l’Eclipse de l’IJA. « Eclipse, parce que c’était composé de voyants et de non voyants. Eclipse aussi, parce que quand les élèves seraient suffisamment formés, nous les voyants encadreurs, allions nous éclipser en laissant la place aux handicapés visuels », explique-t-il.
Le projet va aboutir car, en 1984, les initiateurs vont effectivement former un orchestre de handicapés visuels dénommé, sur proposition d’Ismaïla Konaté alors président de l’Umav, « Miriya » avec Amadou Bagayoko comme chef d’orchestre et Mariam comme chanteuse principale.
