When the Stone Roses disbanded shortly after Second Coming , few people expected to hear any more from Ian Brown. It was rather unexpected, then, when the King Monkey's lo-fi debut, Unfinished Monkey Business , made a minor splash upon its release; at the very least, it was much better than Squire's dreadfully dreary Seahorses. Golden Greats effectively picks up where Unfinished left off, albeit with more emphasis on production this time around. Guitars, keyboards and samples abound in this trippy, groovy and occasionally rock & roll throwback to the heyday of acid house, the very scene that originally spawned the Stone Roses. It's also a more optimistic album than his debut.
