Nice intelligent folky rock from the former Fairport vocalist. Actually sounds more like an American album than a UK one as it’s lacking any hint of a traditional sound and as much as I love traditional UK folk that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it gives a timeless contemporary feel to the whole album. Just a really nice enjoyable album which is better than a lot of the big money things on Vertigo, got to admit I could live without the Phil Spector song though!

This came from a collection of Fairport related folk rock albums all of which are in this tye of condition, the previous owner recorded all of them onto tape and played the tapes instead of the records and when he did have to play the records he handled them well and took extremely good care of them. This is actually one of the poorer condition records from that collection, most were stone cold mint and in such good shape that I upgraded and sold (or am about to sell) my own old copies which were themselves extremely nice copies. Like most Vertigo albums this is now hard to find in anything approaching nice shape but you’ll have to search for a long time before you find a better copy than this one.

Condition:

Sleeve: Very nice! It’s a standard gatefold sleeve made of thickish card but with the record pocket in the front page of the gatefold instead of the second. The surface has a nice textured finish which is easily worn smooth by constant handling, on this copy though the texture is still deep and attractive to both look at and feel.

Having the record in the front flap of the gatefold isn’t really a good idea as it puts all of the strain on the front sleeve, this has caused a few small light creases coming in from the edges of the front, those apart the front is in very nice shape, very clean with no tears or writing anywhere and only really those small creases to mention.

Inside the gatefold is simply perfect!

The rear sleeve is even better condition as it lacks those small creases, it’s also very clean with no writing or tears anywhere and as already mentioned has the textured finish in lovely shape.

The top seam’s are totally unworn.

The bottom seam’s have some light to moderate wear where it’s been taken on and off the shelf, nothing serious and put it in a PVC sleeve (which I’ll supply) and this wear won’t get any worse.

The spine is still wide, clean and square, totally unworn with all of the writing clearly readable.

Record: The record itself is in equally nice if not better condition than the sleeve. It’s nice thickish vinyl which is extremely clean and still has that lovely sheen which only rarely played records have. Viewed under normal light there are no surface marks at all to see, it just looks as nice as can be and even when held under a very harsh lamp there are still no marks visible, not even any of the light hairline type marks caused by taking the record in and out of the sleeve.

Both labels are perfect, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers and no visible spindle wear. The matrices stamped into the run off grooves are 6360 056 1Y and 2Y.

When played the record is every bit as good as it’s visual appearance. It’s one of the better Vertigo pressings and when placed onto the turntable the spindle hole is a very tight fit which is always a sign of a sparsely played record. The sound is clean and clear right across the full dynamic range and comes leaping out of speakers in a highly enjoyable way. There’s no evidence of any hint of distortion or groove wear and no surface noise evident at all throughout the entire record, even between tracks it plays totally silently. Nothing spolit my enjoyment of this record when I played it and I believe that you’ll have to search for a long long time before you come across a significantly better copy than this.

All records carry a full money back guarantee if the condition is not as I’ve described it to be. Postage:

UK: 1LP £3.00 and then 50p for each additional LP.

Europe: 1LP £4.00 then £1.00 for each additional LP.

Rest Of The World: 1LP £7.00 then £2.00 for each additional LP.

Double albums count as two LPs. Insurance is extra and costs £4.00 per parcel and is highly recommended for expensive purchases. If a parcel is uninsured then I am not responsible for it once it’s left my hands. I have proof that every parcel was posted and I will help in any way I can in any disputes with the postal services but I will not give refunds for anything lost or damaged in the post - there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this. Having said that in 25+ years of posting records all over the globe I’ve only ever lost one parcel in the mail so problems are few and far between.

Sorry but I will not post anything to Taiwan under any circumstances.

I work full time so there’s sometimes a couple of days between payment being received and the parcel being posted, depending on work commitments, I keep these delays to a minimum and in most cases the parcel is posted the day after payment is received but delays do occur and are unavoidable. From UK customers I’d prefer either cheques or postal orders (whichever is easier for you) but I will accept paypal if absolutely necessary, however paypal’s buyer protection scheme is not applicable to anything bought from me. This scheme is a con man’s dream and there are just too many untrustworthy people out there so please be aware that if you intend paying by paypal that scheme does not apply - no exceptions!

Overseas customers must use paypal but are subject to the same conditions that apply to UK customers in that the buyer protection scheme does not apply to anything bought from me.
