Description
Private recording, ACA 6810-13 (stereo), 2 LPs in a gatefold jacket. Released by the First Presbyterian Church, Kilgore, Texas, as a memorial to their longtime organist Roy Perry (1906-1978), who was also perhaps the most notable tonal finisher associated with G. Donald Harrison and the Aeolian-Skinner Company. His efforts were such that the III/77 Kilgore organ is widely considered one of the firm’s lasting masterpieces. Neal Campbell plays Widor’s Salve Regina, Bairstow’s Allegro giocoso, Bruce Simonds’s Iam sol recedit igneus; Stephen Farrow plays Paul Manz’s God of Grace and God of Glory, Ewald Nolte’s In dir ist Freude, Walford Davies’s Solemn Melody, Daquin’s Noël Grand jeu et duo, and Reger’s Benedictus; James Lynn Culp plays Lidon’s Sonata de Primo tono, Bach’s Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, Charles Callahan’s Aria, and Karg-Elert’s Ach bleib mit deiner Gnade; and William Teague plays Bach’s Prelude & Fugue in Eb, and Seth Bingham’s Roulade.
