This is an original 1959 monaural U.S. pressing of the 1959 Coral Records LP titled 'In Style With The Crickets', the first album issued by rock-n-roll legend Buddy Holly's band The Crickets after Buddy's untimely death in the famous February 1959 plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa. It is Coral Records catalog number CRL 57320, maroon late 1950s Coral Records labels with silver print. This is a GREAT album and one to have for a couple of reasons - It was produced by original Holly producer Norman Petty and still has the authentic sparse Buddy Holly Tex-Mex rockabilly sound, and it includes The Crickets' original recorded versions of the rock-n-roll classics 'More Than I Can Say' (later popularized by Bobby Vee) and 'I Fought The Law' (the Bobby Fuller Four classic), as well as an early version of another mid-1960s Bobby Fuller hit 'Love's Made A Fool Of You'. Sometime Cricket Sonny Curtis takes over Buddy Holly's lead vocal and guitar chores on this album and wrote or co-wrote many of the songs heard. Other tracks are: Rockin' Pnuemonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu, Great Balls Of Fire, Ting-A-Ling, Just This Once, Deborah, Baby My Heart, When You Ask About Love, Time Will Tell, A Sweet Love. Visual condition of record is a real nice high VG+ with all original gloss and just a few light visible surface marks which cannot be felt and do not affect play. There is a small area extending over two tracks with some very tiny bumps on the play surface, this is a slight manufacturing defect which has absolutely no effect on play, the music is pressed right into this area and it is cosmetic only. Labels have no problems. Record comes packaged inside the cover in its original Coral Records inner sleeve with color pictures of other then-current Coral and Brunswick Records releases. Condition of textured cover is VG with the following flaws: A 3" split in the right-hand side of the top edge and some brown adhesive residue from old previously removed tape on the tops of both the front and back covers in that area as can be seen in the accompanying image, and a 3" split in the right-hand side of the bottom edge - I have carefully and neatly repaired these splits by taping from the inside. There is also a 1" split in the middle of the bottom edge. The name of a previous owner is written in blue ballpoint near the top left corner of the back cover. Cover also has some ring and contact wear, some slight stains, and some general wear along the edges and on the corners. This album maintains the Buddy Holly musical standard very creditably and has some historic material - It would be a choice addition to any Buddy Holly-related, rockabilly, or roots rock-n-roll record collection!
