info about Children of the Blue Sky

Martina Radwan went to Mongolia in Match 2008 to shoot a film for UN-TV and fell in love with the country and in particular with a 16 year-old boy, Baaska, who had lived on the street for 8 years. She helped the boy, by placing him with a foster family and set him up, buy buying him a yurt (Mongolian tent house) and clothes, so he could be an equal family member.

Inspired by the success with Baaska, Martina went back in January 2009, after a fundraising period in NYC and set up two more children, by finding foster families who welcomed these kids as their own. The children are providing with life stock, so they can share the profits made with their foster families. The child’s share is saved and managed by the Mongolian sponsors of Children of the Blue Sky.

This is a very personal project, entirely  supported and financed by Martina and her friends, as well as some Mongolians, who do the field work. It’s a one-child-at-a-time effort. So far the endeavor has been very successful. All of the children live in harmony with their foster parents, learn skills as herders and go to school, either to catch up on lost years (or to learn read and write, like in one girl’s case) or to get vocational training, so they can be independent adults.
