The Brotherhood - Keep On Pushing - JJ MUSIC PRODUCTION
Invisible Afro Art Funk 45 from Trinidad
Incredibly rare mysterious funk 45 by an unknown outfit, the Brotherhood, containing a killer funk/jazz instrumental on the one side and a calypso on the flip. It seems to have been recorded in NYC and pressed in Trinidad as a project of a group of avant garde artists and musicians. The credits on the label refer mainly to the production. Just the writer of the Calypso is mentioned: F.H. Case group, of which I can find no references. The other names seem all to be NYC avant garde artists, and none of them seem to have worked on a production before together. The producer is Bernard Drayton who is the son of jazz bassist Charlie Drayton (Of Barbadian descent BTW) and had a career as a jingle producer. The engineer is Saxophone player Marzette Watts who recorded two highly sought after free jazz LPs. Jimmie Mannas is a NYC photographer who co-founded the Kamoinge Workshop for Afro-American photographers who also photographed MArzette Watts and in Guyana. He is credited for coordinating the production.
