Description
IVAN "REAL WILD CHILD" / "OH, YOU BEAUTIFUL DOLL"
NOT ONLY A FABULOUSLY RARE SINGLE BUT ONE OF THE RAREST BUDDY HOLLY ITEMS!
As all true rockers know, the song was originally written as "WILD ONE" by Johnny Greenan, Dave Owens and Australian rocker, Johnny O'Keefe. It was released in Australia to some small acclaim and subsequently in the UK in 1958 as "REAL WILD CHILD" on the CORAL label. (also on eBay, courtesy of BEANOS! )
The song has been covered by numerous artists but the most notable is IGGY POP who made his famous version in 1988.
BUT, amazingly, when Buddy Holly and the Crickets were touring Australia in the late '50s they heard O'Keefe's version. Cricket, Jerry Ivan Allison made a cover of the song with Holly and the rest of the Crickets when they got home, mainly as a joke! Not wanting his real name on it he used his middle name.
Most importantly, though, this version by Ivan actually has Buddy Holly on it and is one of the most desirable Holly items especially tis UK release. There would not have been more than a handful made and, how many are still around is anyone's guess.
The condition, in collectors' parlance would be described as "excellent". To put this into English, the labels on both sides are virtually unmarked, the playing surfaces have only the slightest of marks and still really shine! I have played this and it sounds absolutely fantastic with no sound deterioration at all.
This is a fabulous chance to add this to your collection!
