For many fans, The Fall Off represents the culmination of nearly a decade of anticipation. J. Cole publicly described the project as being created with the intention of being his last album, making this release especially meaningful in his catalog—even though future plans could always change.

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, with vinyl sales making up a significant portion of its first-week success, further cementing its place as an important release in modern hip-hop collecting.
