JACK, NEV, JIM, GEORGE

(PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR HIGH-RES IMAGES)

OK, so, hands-up, I have not got a clue what this is. What I do know is that this is a 50s Private Skiffle 78 rpm record that seems to be untraceable. I can find no information on the internet on the recording or on any of the players or, for that matter, on the pressing company. (I would be interested in finding out anything about the above so please feel free to contact me about this.)

This is a one-time only opportunity to buy this unknown but very well produced package which features some genuinely superb recordings of some rejigged traditional songs in a super-sweet skiffle sound. Not only is this rare to the point of non-existence but the record and complex gatefold sleeve are in superb condition (see below for grading)

The package is very well made and reflects what must have been a considerable financial outlay at the time. The proto-gatefold sleeve is bound with cloth and features a pretty funky Mondrian type modern design to the front.

The rear of the sleeve features two pasted photos of the band and equipment.

The inside of the gatefold sleeve has a pasted, hand-typed explanatory notes which features some insights on the songs contained and the recording process.

Similarly, the printed labels show that the record was very well produced with a coloured label featuring a caricature of each band member on both sides.

I would say that this is a genuine, one in a lifetime chance for all serious skiffle and 78 collectors to grab a copy of this unknown gem.

SLEEVE: EX

The heavy unlaminated hand made sleeve is in superb condition. There are no breaks or tears. Similarly, being unlaminated it is remarkable that there is no staining or discolouration save for a couple of very light marks to the rear.

RECORD: EX

There are a couple of super light sleeve removal marks. There are, of course, no scratches or feelable marks. The record sounds remarkable.

The above record grading is based on Record Collector magazine system:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
