An excellent condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 US 1st press jazz gem, on BLUE NOTE records, STEREO, BST 84038

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  Hand etched BNST 84038A and "B.A."

Side 2  Hand etched BNST 84038B and "B.A."

The overall appearance and condition of this thick vinyl is a solid excellent (EX). The vinyl is completely flat and in normal daylight comes across as in near perfect condition, with a jet black sheen and beautiful luster. Close scrutiny under a bright light reveals just a few small, very wispy hairlines along with some small and barely distinguishable areas of "dulling" (only noticeable when the vinyl is held at the right angle in a bright light) but obviously nothing feelable and all totally superficial. Clearly this vinyl has been sparingly played and considering it's 53 year antiquity is in remarkable condition. Very impressive!

The labels are each excellent plus (EX+). All text and the famous Blue Note logo with blue and white writing remains perfectly intact. Not even the usual one or two light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole...pristine! Note the "A DIVISION OF LIBERTY RECORDS" text on each label, indicative of a first pressing.

The non-laminated thick cardboard outer sleeve is in very good plus (VG+) condition. Beautiful thick cardboard with all edges remaining rigid with no scuffing on the top edge or spine (where all text remains perfectly intact) and just a single 1cm scuff in the middle of the top edge. The corners remain nicely defined right angles with minimal rubbing and just a little storage compression on each corner - minor. There is the occasional very light age mark on the reverse but no doodles or unwanted writing and all text on the reverse side remains perfect. There is a single deletion punch hole at the bottom left corner which is also present in the accompanying inner sleeve.

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent plus (EX+). Terrific STEREO audio quality with wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even on higher frequencies and at higher volume. No clicks and just some occasional very, very light (barely discernible) background crackle on side 2 but this really is negligible and overall the STEREO reproduction is crystal clear. Blue Note/Liberty records of this era were made to last, and they do! It's not hard to see why this original Blue Note LP is so highly sought after with these jazz greats on top form - Jackie Mclean, alto sax; Blue Mitchell, trumpet; Walter bishop Jnr, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Art Taylor, drums - it's hardly surprising that every track makes for a great listen.

Comes complete with original LIBERTY advertising inner sleeve with no tears, a single 6cm split in the middle of the bottom edge, barely any discolouration, mild creasing in one corner, and remaining fully functional. 

In summary an excellent and very impressive copy of this increasingly rare and sought after US 1st press Blue Note jazz gem - worthy of gracing any serious jazz vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
