Description
Scarce vintage jazz LP featuring JACKIE McLEAN on the BLUE NOTE label, from 1959. Title is “NEW SOIL.†Catalog number is BLP 4013 .
Record is thick vinyl, Side One has deep groove, Side Two does not. Label address is "BLUE NOTE RECORDS * 47 WEST 63rd * NYC" on both sides. No registry symbol at bottom of label. Matrix number is hand-etched, “RVG†is machine stamped in trailoff vinyl, with "ear" symbol on both sides. Jacket has "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 47 West 63rd St., New York 23" on reverse at bottom.
Personnel consist of the following: DONALD BYRD – trumpet; JACKIE McLEAN – alto sax; WALTER DAVIS, Jr. – piano; PAUL CHAMBERS – bass; and PETE LA ROCA – drums.

Jacket is in fairly nice shape, some wear spots on top seam and bottom corners and a 2 inch split at top center. Has some light small light brown spotting on reverse, and the original owner wrote name “Fred†on front at top left corner. Has a small bit of staining on front along the right side edge. Not the best I’ve seen, nor the worst, but overall pretty good, and probably ok for many collectors.
Vinyl appears to have only been played a very small number of times. Has full original gloss, and plays with awesome fidelity. There are a couple slight hairlines, but they are not audible, and there are no serious marks. I play checked the record on my Thorens TD 160 and did not hear so much as a soft tic, the record plays beautifully. I think the winning bidder will be very pleased.
You will see in the scan below that the owner also wrote his name on the Side 2 label. Side 1 label has a stain and smudge that is visible in the scan.
