While Brian Jackson has long been one of the soul-jazz scene's most enthusiastic collaborators - he was, of course, Gil Scott-Heron's long-term creative partner - we're not sure he's made an album quite as collaborative as Now More Than Ever. Produced by NYC house greats and 'Nuyorican Soul' pioneers Masters At Work, it sees him re-imagine classics and personal favourites from his bulging back catalogue with a little help from guest performers and musicians including Moodymann, Omar (who contributes to a stunning new take on 'The Bottle'), Raheem De Vaughan, Blaze's Josh Milan, Rashaan Patterson, Lisa Fischer and Rich Medina. With Jackson's impeccable keys and vocals to the fore, it's not only a genuinely stunning album, but also a fine tribute to Jackson's long and storied career.
