Jackson Heights : The Fifth Avenue Bus 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st press 1972 Vertigo
This first pressing plays to a superb standard with barely any interference, the clarity and depth of the audio is stunning. There are no clicks or pops and no obvious static. All I noticed were a few very light statics that are totally non-intrusive and a small number of incredibly quiet ticks on the 'Long Time Dying' intro. It's not quite a Final Upgrade but it's not far from it! The vinyl itself has no scratches but S1 does have some 'contour lines' but they have no impact on the audio, more on this below.
The gatefold with the die-cut door on the front is in lovely condition with very little shelf wear and the original Vertigo inner is easily one of the best I have ever seen.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition with no scratches but S1 is covered by 'contour lines' where the record was cleaned at some point and then stuck to the Vertigo poly-lined inner. That's what I think happened anyway! The good news is that 1) it is purely superficial as it has no affect on the superb audio and 2) it is only faint and can only be seen when you hold the vinyl under a bright light at a certain angle. Aside from that it is in great condition and S2 is stunning. Just one tiny faint blemish and a handful of ultra faint hairlines and there is still a large piece of vinyl 'flecking' around the spindle hole. There is hardly any spindle wear and this record cannot have been played very much. I guess I'd have to describe it as very good overall but like I say the S1 marking is only superficial.
Play grading
The run in on S1 is so silent and the quiet traffic intro on 'Tramp' is so close to perfect with only one minor static. The acoustic section plays beautifully and the opening vocal section again plays so clearly with only 3/4 mega quiet static sounds, nothing intrusive. There is a slightly more obvious static tick as this section finishes but then the following faster paced section section plays with stunning clarity and definition. It continues in much the same way - the clarity and warmth of the audio outstanding - and the the final vocal does indeed play with stunning precision. I will say Near Mint but it's fair to say the vast majority is better than that.
The gentle piano intro on 'Dog Got Bitten' plays with a clarity that cannot be faulted and the first vocal is equal to that. As the volume increases there is no drop in quality - this classic track does have a number of quiet sections and yet they all play to the same high end standard with no background to speak of. In essence it could not play any better, it is such a strong version and the instrumental passage is a prime example of that, the playback is exceptional, so deep and strong. The end vocal is flawless and this is Mint all the way. I cannot impress enough just how pristine this version is.
The very melodic 'Autumn Brigade' plays with genuine quality from the get go. The delicate intro is crystal clear and the opening vocal plays with sublime clarity also. The first more up tempo part is 'as new' and that pretty much applies to the entire track! A small number of barely audible statics and just the one quiet tick but there clicks, pops or background static. During the 'louder' sections you really notice the depth of the audio. Near Mint
The weather intro on 'Long Time Dying' plays very clearly with only a handful of very quiet ticks, totally non-intrusive, and the following 'vocal' section plays perfectly. The first verse is just as clean and it continues in the same precise way. The final 'wind' section has no background at all. The intro is Near Mint- and the remainder Mint
The segue into 'Sweet Hill Tunnel' is perfect and this largely instrumental track then plays with incredible depth and clarity from then onwards. The one and only vocal section near the end is just as strong and this is easily another Mint track.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The acoustic intro on 'Laughing Gear' is 'as new' and the same can be said for the opening vocal section. It continues to play with a clarity of sound that is so impressive, I cannot fault this version. Perfect in every way! Mint
'House In The Country' again plays with outstanding audio from the very first note. Ok 4/5 minor statics on the first half but this is vinyl! They are very quiet and do not detract from the playback the audio. A couple at then end also but it remains a stunning version. Near Mint
The next track 'Rent A Friend' plays without fault through every section with not even a dust tick for company. There are a number of quiet sections and yet the clarity and warmth is stunning throughout. Mint
'Luxford' is of the same high end standard with a sonic quality straight from '72! Not one dust tick etc and a perfect fade out. Mint every day of the week.
The very quiet intro on 'Pastor Roger' plays with incredible clarity and the opening vocal is just as clean. The next quiet passage again has no background and Giles strong percussion in the next section is superb. From then on it plays so well with no ticks, clicks or pops - there are a couple more very quiet sections and yet the clarity again pays testament to how well this vinyl has been preserved. The final 'singalong' is clear and strong - it's a stunning version and Mint- is well deserved.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve
The cover is in superb condition with barely any wear. The edges have only minimal rubbing and the spine is still strong and clean. The corners have very little wear and the opening edge is pristine. The front cover is stunning and the die-cut door on the bus is close to perfect with just one very faint crease on the left door. The back cover has just a little ringwear and the top and bottom and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate. A fine example!
The original Vertigo inner is in lovely condition also with only very minimal age related fading on the top edges. It is one of the cleanest I have ever seen.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
