Description

Original VERY RARE 1970 psych pop LP from Jade, "Faces of Jade", on the GAR label.  There's so much John Lennon influence on this little homemade gem, you'd swear the Fab Four came out of the cornfields of Ohio.  Mostly, Jade prefer the trippy, spectacle-wearing John over the earlier beat pop teen idol - although you can hear some of the latter in "Rest of My Life", a breezy acoustic beat pop ballad in the Beatles "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" style.  The Walrus John appears more often here, as in the echoey harmony popsike of "Wait Till I Come Home", whose horn flourishes at the end harken back to "All You Need is Love."  While "Willows End" is a beautiful slice of trippy baroque psychedelia with moody harpsichord, hushed vocals and nice "Penny Lane" horns jockeying for position with some trippy rushing wind SFX.  The best one here, "My Mary (More Than Ever)", starts out with a quick candid snort (wonder what the "Paul is Dead" clueseekers would've made of this if it were John).  For the rest of the song, all the instruments are played BACKWARDS, except for the vocals, which SOUND backwards but are really forwards - I know because they still make discernable words, although I hear nothing this time about "my sweet Satan."  All this PLUS the strange sound of a bubbling hookah pipe throughout - it's enough to give you deja vu about a certain Israeli psych rock band called the Churchills.  So what if the walrus was Paul?  The hookah smoking caterpillar was a good friend of John's, and that's the sound of what Jade's going for here.  The Magical Mystery Tour begins in Ohio.  Original 1970 pressing on the GAR label.  Cover's in EXCELLENT shape, hardly any wear at all.  Vinyl looks visually unplayed, plays VG+ with some crackle.  Winning bidder pays $4.00 media mail shipping in the US, $8 air mail to Canada, $14 air mail everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.  Please check out my other auctions for more obscure pop, psych and garage goodies, and I will combine shipping on multiple wins.
