·         COMMENTS / ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Rare killer original private psych prog monster led by obscure hippie duo!  Released on the tiny Jade label from Nashville, apparently pressed in tiny quantities.  Solid rating in Hans Pokora’s “Record Collectors Dreams” – and gets a great review in Acid Archives:

'The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & [Debbie] Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville in 1977, Mosaics: Pieces Of Stonewent unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately, it didn't disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialty circles, Mosaics has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just to impressive to ignore. And beyond the obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back.

'One of Jade Stone & Luv's earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist, Paul Major. Here's a typical Major impression of the music on Mosaics:

"Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. Bubbly champagne molecules become the plastic vinyl boothes in dim-lit dive bars; it's crackerbox post-war suburban low-rent psychedelic..."

'Interest in this is on the rise and rightly too, cause this is one cool ultra-1970s artifact by a couple decked out in full period regalia including a handlebar moustache (Jade Stone), hot pants (Luv), and a psychedelic VW bus. The music is notoriously hard to describe, but projects scenes of all-night cruising through Edge City in a stolen Cadillac, downing reds with cheap sparkling wine that you refer to as "champagne", with the 8-track blasting "Mosaics" at full volume. Neon sign singles bars, pool halls and re-opened nightclubs flash by while Jade Stone sings like the rock star he soon hopes to be. Not metropolitan hip, but dreams of stardom and glamour from the American underbelly, two renegade souls zooming down the highway between Austin and Nashville. Well-produced, with some fantastic tracks like "Man", featuring great keyboard and fuzz interplay, and soulful-loungey vocals. "Trailer-park music" someone rightly called it. Major personal fave, but hardly for everyone, and the cover shot alone will scare a lot of potential buyers off.' - Acid Archives

LP GRADING GUIDELINES
  • NOTE: All LPs are professionally cleaned using the VPI HW-17 RECORD CLEANING SYSTEM and carefully inspected under a grading lamp with 120-watt bulb.

  • Guidelines reflect TYPICAL factors determining grade - variations are noted in the description
  • Please note: I DO NOT USE EXCELLENT (EX) as a grade.
  • Flaws for ALL covers graded below VG+ are noted in the description.
  • I rarely use grades below VG, and all vinyl graded VG or less is appropriately spot play-graded to assure sound quality.
  • Grades below G are not listed, as I typically do not sell merchandise in such condition.
  • Intermediate grades (e.g., NM-, VG/VG+, VG++) are used, as applicable.

  • MINT: Factory Sealed; cover virtually flawless.

  • NM+  (Near Mint Plus) - Factory sealed with minor cover flaws, OR an otherwise mint LP recently opened by me and played in spots for demonstration purposes.

  • NM  (Near Mint) - vinyl, cover and labels nearly flawless.

  • VG+  (Very Good Plus) - what many refer to as "excellent"; pretty close to NM. Full or nearly full-gloss vinyl with a few hairlines, minor surface scuffs and/or sleeve marks; possibly one or a couple small, light  scratches (inaudible or causing unobtrusive soft clicks, noted as applicable in the description) on an otherwise NM piece. Expect only slight surface noise in spots. Cover has slight general wear and/or aging, OR minimal wear/aging and a couple of minor flaws (noted as applicable in the description).

  • VG  (Very Good) - Vinyl still glossy, possibly with slight graying; has a few or some light scuffs, sleeve marks and hairlines, possibly a few small light  scratches. Expect only slight surface noise in spots.

  • VG-  (Very Good Minus) - Vinyl typically glossy with slight or some graying; generally has all of the flaws noted in the VG grade to a greater degree (hairlines, light scuffs, surface marks, small light scratches, sleeve marks). Expect slight or some surface noise that's noticeable but NOT overwhelming.

  • G  (Good) - Vinyl typically still glossy with some graying; generally has some scuffs, surface marks and light scratches, plus lots of sleeve marks and hairlines. Expect some surface noise throughout that's noticeable but NOT overwhelming - NO skips, sticks, heavy scuffs, deep scratches, excessive noise, or loud pops or clicks (unless noted in description).
