Catching a night bus home at the end of a hard night's night in London is an easily disregarded privilege. But take to it in the right frame of mind - caress those yellow-painted handlebars, sniff the condensation on the top deck front window, visually ingest the view of the road outstreching before you - and you'll realise that this is a taxpayer-funded vibe no other city can offer in quite the same way. A true Londoner (born in Stepney), post-punk mastermind, bassist and former PiL member Jah Wobble offered us this nine-track solo record in 2023, recalling his select favourite bus routes in dub, a personal pantheon and dedication to said multinumeric mobile rain shelter. Of course, our favourites here are those big red lurches through the best areas, each track's style subtly referencing those genres that came up in each ward: '21 Towards Lewisham Shopping Centre' with its locally accurate tribute to nighttime reggae through dark jazz, and the trickily slow, post-broken-beat oddments of '37 Towards Peckham'.
