Description

JAKE HOLMES - A letter to Katherine December LP. Original copy on Tower of the fabulous 1968 second LP of JAke Holmes, even better than his first effort in my humble opinion... just terrific US psychedelic acid folk at its best... To file next Arthur (Lee HArper)'s DREAMS & IMAGES lp on LHI ! Anyway, here's a cc from the always fab Acid Archives web page about this LP: "A lot of people don’t like Holmes’ second album, but as a whole, I find it more interesting than the first. The addition of drums and a fuller overall production sound allows him to go in a lot of directions, and while they’re not all successful, they’re never less than fascinating. “High School Hero” is the song all of us who were picked on in 10th grade wish we could write, except that I’m not sure the rest of us would have the same kind of whacked out stream-of-consciousness Holmes shows here. His jazzy tendencies show up more here than on the first album, and that may put as few people off, but his sensibility is so peculiar that every failed experiment on the album seems to somehow make sense. Side two begins with “Leaves Never Break,” the most disturbed song in his repertoire, and one of the all-time great folk/psych songs. Flawed, but unique, and it grows on you. [AM]" THere's also a longer review of this LP at this link: http://www.lysergia.com/AcidArchives/reviews1.htm. By the way, this copy is in VG++/VG++ cond.!
