Description

James Brown & Rev. Al Sharpton "God Has Smiled on Me" b/w "Part 2" 12" test pressing, 1981 on Royal King Records (RK-12-333 / RK 12-334)

This is a two-part gospel track with a young Al Sharpton speaking over choir music with the Godfather of Soul himself acting as bandleader/hype man.  I've seen a 7" pressing of this track on Royal King Records a few times over the years, but I've never seen a 12" pressing either in person or referenced online.  So I assume this test pressing may be the only place this track exists on the 12" format if it never made it to a full production release.

This test pressing is from the old Precision Record Pressing plant, formerly of Nashville, Tennessee.  Handwritten notes on the labels date this record to October 16, 1981.  I will send this record along with the white jacket it was in when I found it.  The jacket has what appears to be an approval ("OK") written on it, along with a signature and again the date 10-16-81.  I'm not certain who the signature belongs to, but my best guess is that it may be Masterfonics mastering engineer Jim Lloyd.  (Masterfonics stamp and initials JL are scribed in the deadwax.
