Description
A super rare collectible, a highly collectible, probably ONE OF A KIND original 1970 test acetate from King Studios.
This material is from the session that produced the portion of the SEX MACHINE album featuring the new J.B.s with BOOTSY and CATFISH COLLINS with CLYDE STUBBLEFIELD on drums!!
The medley on the first side appeared on the album with audience response overdubbed to simulate a concert recording. THIS acetate is rough mix with no reverb and does NOT have the fake audience.
THIS is the much-sampled, legendary version of GIVE IT UP OR TURNIT A LOOSE in its original, primitive state.
The second side is labeled THERE WAS A TIME and did NOT appear on the album - was never issued by King Records. The track was re-titled I GOT TO MOVE and was eventually released on the Polydor CD, IN THE JUNGLE GROOVE.
Note the credits that appear on an original JAMES BROWN PRODUCTIONS letterhead taped to the cover! This alone is a rock and roll hall of fame worthy item!!
This would be the PRIZE in any serious James Brown collection or that of any hip-hop deejay.
Note that acetates are not intended for repeated play and the shellac often deteriorates over time. It is strongly suggested that the track be digitized for frequent play.
From the personal collection of noted James Brown historian Alan Leeds
