Description

As someone who was lucky enough (and old enough) to have visited The Twisted Wheel, Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino,  (Great Days !)  I’ve been selling off my Northern Soul Record Collection since last September.

Although a lot have now been sold, I’ve still got several classic Northern Soul & Motown records left to list over the coming weeks.  Here’s one now :-

JAMES CARR - THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW - Northern Soul Classic MOJO 2092-053

Recorded and originally released in 1966 on Goldwax Records in the US and Stateside in the UK, the record I’m listing now is the 1972 UK reissue on MOJO, featuring the equally great “FREEDOM TRAIN” on the flip side.

Well looked after since I bought it new, and with relatively few plays, the record is in near-mint condition with clean and unmarked labels.

This fabulous Northern Soul double-sider is in stunning condition, so if you’re looking to replace a worn-out copy or if you’ve not got this classic record in your collection, then get bidding - You won’t find one better!

RECORD HISTORY, DESCRIPTION AND GRADINGS

I bought my records brand new, from reputable Record Shops.

My US import records were purchased new from Specialist Record Shops in Manchester City Centre (Mainly from the “Spin Inn” and “Ralph’s Records”) apart from a few rarer ones in the 70’s, which were sourced from a trusted DJ friend who had “contacts” in the Northern Soul Scene.

All my records have been looked after. They’ve not been traded or passed from one person to another, like some records offered for sale on EBay.

RECORD  VERSION

I always try to include record version details in my listings to show whether the record is a genuine UK or US first issue or a subsequent re-release. Where the issue status is not known or can‘t be confirmed, the record will always be listed with “reissue” shown in inverted commas.

RECORD GRADING EXPLANATION

Record grading is rather a subjective process and what one person considers “excellent”, for example,  could impress some and disappoint others.

I always try though to give an accurate and honest description of the condition of all my records, the majority of which are now between 40-50 years old, using the definitions and explanations stated below.

In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with any of my gradings or descriptions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

NEAR-MINT

The record has all the appearances of a new record with little sign of having been played. Both labels will be perfect unless otherwise stated.

EXCELLENT

The record shows some minor signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. Both labels will be perfect unless otherwise stated.

VERY GOOD

The record has obviously been played a number of times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some surface marks and/or the occasional light scratch. Both labels will be in excellent condition unless otherwise stated.

STYRENE RECORDS

Most of my 60’s and early 70’s US import records are pressed on styrene rather than vinyl.

Styrene is generally less resilient than vinyl and is more prone to the occasional “pop and crackle”.  Please bear this in mind when bidding.  All my imports have been well looked after though and most have had very few plays.

In addition to my descriptions, I always provide pictures of my records out of their cardboard sleeves, so you can see the record in full and on both sides.

PRICING

I don’t use inflated “Buy Now” options or set unrealistically high start prices.

All my listings start with a maximum of 99p, regardless of the likely value suggested by previous EBay sales or record valuation websites.

Sometimes I get a good price, at other times the buyer gets a bargain, but, at the end of the day, the market sets the eventual price, not me, which I think is fair to all.

Q & A

If you have any questions or comments about any of my records, please feel free to contact me. Many Thanks.

For those new to Northern Soul or those looking to build up or replace their collection, I will be listing more popular Northern Soul and Motown records over the coming weeks.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AUCTION FOR THIS RECORD COINCIDES WITH THE BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND, SO THE SOONEST I’LL BE ABLE TO POST OUT THE RECORD, IS TUESDAY 26th MAY.

THANK YOU AND HAPPY BIDDING!
