"As it cost about $2.98 to make, we thought that a price of $3.98 was appropriate for the finished product. I think that is about what it is worth." Hey, who are we to disagree? Unfortunately, it's now almost a quarter of a century later and what cost four bucks is now a collector's item.

A large part of whatever charm 'Jamming With Edward' had back then lay in the fact that it was presented as a throwaway by the very people who made it: Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Ry Cooder, and the late, great boogie-woogie piano player Nicky Hopkins, alias "Edward," who was the "linch pin" of this series of jams.

Cut in 1969 during sessions for the Stones' "Let It Bleed," it's basically a chronicle of what unfolded one night after it became clear that Keith Richards wasn't going to show up for the Stones' session. The results: 36 minutes of boozy, bluesy, mostly instrumental goofing-off, with Jagger injecting the occasional improvised `yawp'. The sound is strikingly clean, though there are still bursts of distortion. Nicky Hopkins' childhood drawings adorn the jacket. [John Sakamoto ]
