First time on ebay!!!!! One of the rarest records of the international experimental music discography...this is the original greek pressing of Jani Christou's Mysterion on Elliniki Diskographia label, only some hundered of copies of this rare gem exist and is practically impossible to find even in Greece, while this record has not been exported outside Greece with the exception of some copies that went to Germany after the release of Jani Christou LP on Editions RZ in the 80's. It is not even included in the official site of Christou(!!!), that sites his LP on ED.RZ and his "Late Works" LP on EMI!!! Christou is the well hidden "secret" of greek experimental music, mostly known on an international level for his close relationship with italian composer Giacinto Scelsi, who was very influenced from him and dedicated to Christou many of his works, after Christou passed away suddenly in 1970. Christou is well known in the contemporary music circles in Greece though, being one of the pioneers in the field and being one of the organisers of the 1st greek hellenic weeks of contemporary music, which after his death were organised to his honour. A festival with international fame during the 60-70's on which were premiered many important works of european and greek composers. Jani Christou's background is a "key" to enter into his music: born in Heliopolis Egypt by greek parents(at a time when many Greeks did still live in Egypt), accumulating thus the oriental history and culture which can be traced in his "ritualistic" and occult music together with the greek cultural background, which led him in the first place to studies in formal logic and philosophy close to Ludwig Wittgenstein in Cambridge, Uk. He was deeply influenced by his brother, who had been a pupil of psychology pioneer Carl Jung. Along with that he initiated his occupation with music, which became his main occupation for the last ten years of his life, from 34 to 44.
His "Mysterion" was written back to 1966, at the age of 40 and is an "Oratorium of ancient egyptian necrologies". The work is inspired by the idea of "words of power", which were pronounced by the incarnation of Osiris as Afu-Ra, in his night journey on the ship of million years. Christou, a big connaisseur of history, anthroplogy, comparative religions managed to unify the present with the past in a really ground-breaking, unbelievable work, not to be compared with anything else before or after it!!!  
Again, this LP was never seen on ebay, while his "Late Works" in the 2 times i saw it on ebay was sold for 256$ or 115 gbp respectively...maybe your one and only chance to obtain an extreme rarity of greek experimental music...
Cover and vinyl lie in excellent condition, a very fresh copy!! Impossible to find in such a condition today!!
