DIAL COLLECTOR'S JAZZ
CHARLIE PARKER
THE BIRD BLOWS THE BLUES
DIAL 901
This is a VERY RARE original 12" pressing from 1950 on thick vinyl. The Dial label was a store based label founded by Ross Russell. Parker played on 7 of the 16 sessions on Dial. I believe this is the first 12" lp issued by Dial.
These recordings were originally issued on 78s, but Dial was among the first to produce 33 rpm jazz albums. This 12" LP album is a fine example of that!
The cover shows it's age....the front shows the gold lettering on the cover has faded and noticeable wear on the red title sticker. As for the spines, there's a split on the top seam apx. 1" and a split at bottom at the open end approximately 3 1/2". The corners show wear. On the reverse, there's a red file marker catalog strip at the top right corner.
Personnel includes: Miles Davis, Howard McGhee, Red Callender, Hal West, Dodo Marmarosa, Don Lamond, Max Roach, Tommy Potter, Duke Jordan and Wardell Gray, vocals by Earl Coleman on "Dark Shadows"
Side A
MASTER SET A - ORIGINAL ISSUE
Relaxin' at Camarillo, Carvin' the Bird, Dark Shadows, Ornithology, Bongobop, Cool Blues
Side B
MASTER SET B - ALTERNATE MASTER
Relaxin' at Camarillo, Relaxin' at Camarillo, Carvin' the Bird, Dark Shadows, Blowtop Blues, Bongobop, Cool Blues
Side A plays very clean with light surface noise and occasional light crackle, no major defects making it un-listenable.....Side A plays great! Side B plays same as Side A, No skips, a GOOD SOLID PLAYING RECORD!
I am grading this a nice VG, This is NOT a MINT record or a audiophile copy, it is a nice copy for the collector of rare vinyl jazz records to play and enjoy and is being sold as described. It has been visually inspected and played (as well as dubbed to CD for my own collection). This record would be a great addition to any Jazz collection
No stickers, tape or tears other than seam splits on cover or record labels.
The record itself will be shipped in a new white outer sleeve and poly lined inner sleeve with the original jacket in a plastic sleeve to protect the cover from being damaged in shipping.
This is the chance to own a magnificent piece of jazz history. Parker’s improvisations here are absolutely magnificent.
Bird lives! I also have Charlie Parker Dial 904 LP, "CHARLIE PARKER COLLECTOR"S ITEMS, THIRTEEN MASTERS PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED" available, see my "Items For Sale"

Grading is as follows:
I will never advertise something as Mint unless it has never been opened. I rarely use NM (near mint) unless it looks like it has never been taken out of the sleeve and played.
VG++; Great copy, any collector would be happy with. Very little to no wear on record, no real scratches, scuffs or marks. Plays almost like new.
VG+; Also a great copy but may have some markings on vinyl or label, may also have some slight noise. A great copy for collector's.
VG; Markings on vinyl or label, background noise.
VG-: Has seen a better day! but still plays with very noticable noise.
G: A demolished record, I will only use this rating if it is something extremely rare, scratches and may possibly have a skip.
All records sold whether new or used are sold as used, as most listed will be out of print for many years. All records sold (unless sealed) have been played LOUD on a Garrard Type A70 turntable with Empire 888 cartridge and stylli. Grading varies from one seller to the next as many are stricter in their grading than others. I believe I represent the records I sell fairly,
