This album was created by J.K., a 15-yr. old (!) who was used to hanging out with musicians and entertainment types. The kid also took acid (and judging from the lyrics, heroin) and listened to the Beatles, and this album is the result of those experiences, and also trying to create a song cycle that described the think line between life and death, with songs about childhood and innocent love in the beginning, then growing awareness in the middle, and then death at the end, all shot through with a sense of freedom and release. It is a quite effective effort, and the music is very interesting and sophisticated, particularly for such a young mind. "Fly" is gorgeous and very Beatles-esque, almost worth owning the album alone. "Christine" is a nice simple love song, and "Nobody" and "O.D." introduce the darker side of awareness leading to the many-faceted "Dead" that closes the album. The album is extremely interesting! The musicianship is also very good, with psych-tinged guitars bouncing here and there, droning bass pulsing in the background and various other studio effects for good measure. (Backwards Piano, sitar, some mellotron... you name it.) Really, it's all outstanding stuff. Jay's voice also fits the theme of the record perfectly and is often haunting and spooky in it's delivery...

***

This sounds like the solo album that George Harrison might have made before he left the Beatles, as several songs have that solemn, spiritual, forlorn quality Harrison perfected on cuts like "Long, Long, Long." With its languid guitars, organ, and somber mood, "Nobody" is so reminiscent of All Things Must Pass tracks like "Let It Roll" that one is surprised to find that this album was done well before the release of All Things Must Pass in the early '70s. Although the lyrics are blatantly hippie-ish, the music itself sets a dignified, almost stately mood with its intimacy and tasteful restraint. "Fly" and "Nobody" are genuine lost treasures of low-key late-'60s late psychedelia, and alone make the album worth investigating. But it's inspired and pleasurable the whole way through, down to the super-brief links and intros dotted throughout the record.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER
