From the collection of the late Herb Cohen, longtime manager of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, here is a unique acetate of Mothers member Jeff Simmons' solo recordings, with some unreleased material and some that showed up on his landmark 1970 Frank Zappa-produced album "Lucile Has Messed My Mind Up" .This acetate has much unreleased and alternate material, as follows-
Side 1-
1. Layin' Back- actually “I’m In The Music Business” from "Lucille...", same take but with an extra 12 seconds of jamming which is faded out on the commercial release.
2. Tales From The Canyon Rim - An unreleased track
3. Madame Du Barry - Same take as on "Lucille...", but different mix.
4. Cantelope Island - An unreleased song, may be Zappa on guitar.
5. Conversation With A Recluse - Different version than on "Lucille..."
Side 2-
1. Icareass - An unreleased 45 second instrumental interlude.
2. Apian Way - Same take as on "Lucille…", may be slightly different mix.
3. Zondo Zondo - Same take as on "Lucille…", but different mix.
4. Tokata - This is an excerpt from “Toccata For Truck” from the "Naked Angels" soundtrack but spliced with 25 seconds of electronic studio noodling at the beginning and 30 seconds at the end.
5. Tigres - Same take as on "Lucille…", may be slightly different mix.
6. Raye - Different take than "Lucille..." version with 50 seconds of unreleased instrumental. Sounds like Frank on guitar.
This is a rare and great Zappa related collectible that sounds much like The Mothers. VG++/VG+, plays great overall with the occasional pop, but overall sounds very nice (acetates are not made for repeated plays, so our advice is to record this.)
