Probably one of the few most historically significant items in the development of the West Coast Psych Scene, this wonderfully poetic and moody folk-psych freshman effort by Jefferson Airplane, from the spring of 1966, represents probably the first real "Psychedelic" album ever recorded. The songs vary from reworking of John Loudermilk's classic "Tobacco Road" to the beautiful rendition of "Chauffeur Blues", an old blues ditty by Memphis Minnie, but most of the songs are band's originals. And what originals they are: You will be transported to a different time and different place, circa 1966 and when people truly enjoyed their newly found freedom (at least for a brief moment in time). This album contains the first, original line-up of the band: Marty Balin - Paul Kantner - Jorma Kaukonen - Jack Casady - the-now legendary Alex "Skip" Spence on drums - and Signe Anderson on vocals. It is unfortunate that Signe left the band shortly after the making of this album, as she had such a sweet and expressive voice. Truly a jem. The songs are: Blues from an Airplane - Let me in - Bringing me down - It's no secret - Tobacco Road - Come up theYears - Run Around - Let's get together - Don't slip away - Chauffeur Blues - And I like it. ·       RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)           Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 4:1.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners

-        Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-        Top seam: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters.  This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Bottom seam: less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters.

-        Spine: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters.

-        Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-        Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-        Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the back panel

-        Back cover has a few  tiny, spot-like peel-off marks in one localized area not larger than 1 square inch.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing  (except for the six autographs)

-        No stamps

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
